BMD (Bone Mineral Density)

A scan that evaluates bone strength and the risk of osteoporosis or fractures.

What is a BMD (Bone Mineral Density)?

BMD (Bone Mineral Density) is a test that measures how much calcium and other minerals are present in your bones. It’s used to check the strength of your bones and assess the risk of fractures or osteoporosis.

How it works:

  • The most common method is DEXA scan (Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry).
  • A low-dose X-ray passes through the bones, usually the hip, spine, or forearm.
  • The machine calculates how dense and strong the bone is.
  • Screening for osteoporosis
  • Monitoring bone loss over time
  • Evaluating bone health after fractures
  • Checking effects of medications for bone-related conditions
